Waikaraka Speedway: Putting Safety in Pole Position
There’s nothing quite like the thrill of speedway, especially when you know safety has taken pole position. Working alongside the team at NZ Strong, we recently helped make Waikaraka Speedway a safer place to race. While we can’t control what happens on the track, we can improve protection for the on and off ramps, where vehicles enter and exit the raceway. These ramps are a known pinch point and a heavy traffic area during events, making them some of the busiest and potentially most hazardous parts of the site, except for the track itself. We installed our 910-2 Barrier system to clearly define vehicle access and protect these critical areas. The barriers create strong, highly visible boundaries, helping vehicles move safely while reducing the risk of accidents. As an added bonus, we also installed bespoke, mini versions of our bollards at the end of the pedestrian walkway, helping guide foot traffic and ensuring people can move safely around the site, even when race day activity is full throttle. This work is part of a wider $11 million upgrade to transform this historic and beloved venue. The improvements include an architecturally designed purpose-built track, new pit area, increased spectator capacity and facilities, and access for community events when the track is not in use. All coming together to create a safer, more enjoyable, and of course thrilling experience for everyone on site. The result is a safer, more organised environment for both vehicles and pedestrians. Everyone can focus on the action on the track, knowing that practical safety measures are keeping them protected off the track.
Learn moreBarrier Up & Risks Down at this Auckland Warehouse
One of our most popular barrier setups is the 910-2 Barrier, and for the cherry on top it's finished with our Tru-Gard Hand Rail. This was the solution of choice for a large new-build warehouse in Auckland, where the goal was simple: keep pedestrians safe while they navigate the full perimeter of the building. Personnel Gates were placed in key high-traffic areas, including office entrances and exits. By slowing people down and requiring them to open the gate before stepping onto the warehouse floor, staff get a moment to check for forklifts and moving vehicles. It’s a small pause that makes a big difference when people and machines share the same space. Bollards were also installed in strategic locations to protect sensitive electronic equipment. Nobody wants downtime caused by accidental damage, and our certified bollards provide tough, reliable protection exactly where it’s needed. This project is a solid example of how we combine smart design, certified protection, and practical placement to keep both people and assets safe. In a busy warehouse, it’s these little touches that make a big difference. \\
Learn moreA Boost of Yellow for Harvey Norman's Storeroom
Like any Harvey Norman store, this location runs a busy on-site warehouse, constantly receiving stock and moving furniture and appliances out to an eager customer base. So, when they needed a solution to make this busy store room safer we were happy to help. The store room had been operating at full capacity for some time, with forklifts and pallet trolleys moving through the same areas where staff were managing inwards and outwards goods. With no traffic management system in place, it was a high-risk environment. There were no pedestrian safety zones and no barriers protecting valuable stock. Our solution was simple but effective. We installed runs of our 910-2 Barrier to cordon off danger zones while keeping plenty of access points through Personnel Gates in key areas. Full protection was essential around office and administration spaces, doorways leading from traffic areas into the kitchenette and toilets, and specific storage areas where stock could be at risk from passing machinery. The result? A safer, more organised warehouse where staff and stock can move around with confidence. It’s great to see the difference a little extra yellow can make!
Learn moreWhere Foot Traffic Safety Meets Freight at Mainfreight Dunedin
If you’ve had a look through our case studies, you will see we’ve worked with our fair share of Mainfreight depots over the years. So we have learned a thing or two about the hazards and requirements of their busy transport sites. People are at the centre of everything Mainfreight do, and keeping pedestrians safe on site is always a priority. It’s something we’ve enjoyed collaborating with them on many times before. Creating safe walkways in high-traffic zones is something we do best. So when the Dunedin branch needed help, we were happy to advise. This busy depot sees national consignments move in and out all day, every day. Our role was to help establish a secure pedestrian zone around the warehouse, separating foot traffic from forklifts. A combination of our Barrier, Hand Rail, and Personnel Gates was the ideal solution, providing modular, high-visibility products that fit seamlessly into the environment. Built to last with a 10-year warranty, staff and visitors can have the confidence that this is an investment in their safety for years to come. This site is just another example of how we partner with Mainfreight to put people protection first, every step of the way. Learn moreKeeping People and Freight Moving Safely at Lindsay Transport
Lindsay Transport is one of Australia’s largest transport companies, moving more than 1.6 million tonnes of freight for over 5,000 customers along Australia’s east coast each year. With more than 37 stores and depots, health and safety is a core consideration across its warehouse and logistics operations. At this Victorian freight site, the day-to-day environment is busy and complex. High volumes of pedestrian workers move throughout the warehouse and around loading and unloading bays, while a constant flow of trucks and forklifts keeps the site active from start to finish. The focus of this Tru-Gard project was clear: create well-defined, safe pedestrian walkways for staff and visitors navigating the site. Working alongside our local supplier and installer in Victoria, we installed long runs of 910-2 Tru-Gard Barrier and an added handrail. Multiple Personnel Gates were also added to control foot traffic and prevent pedestrians from stepping directly into high-risk driveways and forklift zones. The result is a site with clearer separation between people and vehicles, improved traffic control, and safer movement throughout the facility. It is a practical example of how thoughtful barrier placement and pedestrian management can reduce risk in busy freight environments, without compromising day-to-day operations. Learn moreAn Investment in Safety: Asset Protection at PwC Christchurch
PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) is a multinational professional services network with offices across New Zealand. Following the devastating 2011 earthquake in Christchurch, the original PwC building was destroyed. Replacing several former offices and apartment buildings along Cashel Street, the new PwC building now stands as a statement in modern architecture and resilience. Home to multiple blue-chip tenants including PwC, Chapman Tripp, Air New Zealand, Crombie Lockwood, and Tonkin and Taylor, the development delivers a modern and functional solution for a busy CBD site, designed to support safer workplaces. So, given we are not the architects, you may be wondering where Tru-Gard fits in. Our involvement focused on a key but often overlooked area of new builds: the car park. With a constant flow of vehicles and bikes, the structural elements of the car park needed added protection from everyday impacts. That is where our barrier systems came into play. The 610-1 Barrier was the ideal piece of kit for the job. Rated to withstand impacts from vehicles up to seven tonnes, it was more than capable of protecting walls and other vulnerable areas from bumps, scrapes, and grazes. Think of it as the band-aid before you need it. When minor accidents happen, the barrier takes the hit, protecting the building itself. That peace of mind was exactly what the building owners were looking for. If you are investing in a new build, planning a retrofit, or upgrading an existing site, asset protection should be part of the conversation early. Learn moreChilly Spaces, Safe Places - Keeping this Polarcold Auckland Safe.
Chilly temperatures, expensive rapid doors, active loading docks, pedestrians and forklifts – talk about a busy environment! When the managers of this large cold store reached out to us, we were only too happy to help them protect expensive assets, like automation systems and doors, as well as their employees from forklift traffic and moving goods. Our 910-2 Barrier is the go-to option for cases like this, and we maximised its presence for full protection. With the addition of some personnel gates, there was now a clearly defined pedestrian area, with safe access points and clear visual deterrents from getting too close to installed assets. We also recommended adding additional signage, and the clients took that up with matching yellow 'warning signs', the icing on the safety cake as it were. Our Door Frame Bollards added extra protection around the doors, preventing accidental damage. While these doors may be on the tall side, they were no issue for our team, as we can handle custom sizes to fit and protect any doorway. The Door Frame Bollards are worth their weight in gold because doors like these don’t come cheap, and they tend to be victims of accidental bumps and scrapes by vehicles and forklifts more often than you would think. Our Door Frame Bollards prevent damage and costly downtime for repairs while creating a strong visual deterrent for drivers on site, a win/win if you ask us. We also capped off the project with some Tru-Gard Breakaway Bollards. These were installed to protect electrical equipment across the site, including door and dock control boxes. These bollards are attached to a breakaway base plate with shear bolts, designed to absorb the impact of a crash while breaking free of the base to prevent costly damage to the floor. Now, their people and assets are well protected from any accidental damage, saving costly downtime, expensive repairs, and most importantly, preventing injuries. If this sounds similar to your site or has you thinking about hazards that might need a solid safety solution, our team can help. Let us make your workplace safer, contact us today.
Learn moreFelling Hazards, Raising Safety at Pan Pac Milburn
This is Pan Pac Forest Products Ltd, a subsidiary of Japanese pulp and paper experts Oji in Japan. To understand the history of Pan Pac, let’s take a step back in time. Back to an era where you’d hear John Rowles’ Cheryl Moana Marie on the radio, the classic It’s In The Bag made its TV debut, and flares and platform shoes were all the rage. The decade is the 1970s, when Pan Pac first established its site at Whirinaki, just north of Napier. Fast forward the cassette of time to 2014, and Pan Pac operations have expanded into Milburn, just south of Dunedin, where Pan Pac Forest Products (Otago) Limited was established, a lumber business operating a sawmill, boiler, continuous kiln, and dry mill. With Pan Pac products now being shipped to over 15 countries around the world, the mills are working at full capacity. This comes with a constant flow of heavy machinery, moving product, staff, delivery trucks, and associated hazards. Continuous traffic on site creates dangerous areas and increases the risk to both people and property. That’s where we come in. Our classic 910-2 Barrier was the ideal choice for maximum visibility and protection. Tested and certified, it creates clear passageways for foot traffic and protects buildings from accidental vehicle damage. Combined with our modular Hand Rail to provide safe walking spaces for pedestrians around the site. Fast forward the tape again to part two of this project, where we completed an additional sub-project to improve safety in the logging yard. This area is the most hazardous on the premises, as heavy machinery and rolling logs can seriously injure or even kill anyone in the wrong place at the wrong time. By limiting the entry of traffic and people to this part of the sawmill, hazards were identified and reduced, helping the business meet its obligations to protect staff and visitors. By modifying our standard Personnel Gates, we created heavy-duty vehicle gates fit for purpose. Some of the key features include: A new latch to secure double gates firmly in the closed position. A locking option on the latch for added security, with holes for a padlock to prevent unauthorised access, ideal for after-hours protection. A bracket option to mount gates directly onto bollards, making the gate stronger and providing extra protection if a vehicle misjudges the angle. The client is thrilled with the results in terms of security and access control, and our unmissable Safety Yellow finish makes them a strong addition to their overall safety strategy. We have helped make this site a safer place to visit and work. And we think that’s pretty groovy.
Learn moreSafer Steps at CHEP Dunedin
It will come as no surprise that a busy CHEP warehouse is home to plenty of forklifts. It is also no surprise that these can create hazards for pedestrians, and that is where we come in. Creating safer foot traffic areas along the allocated walkways to and from the dispatch office and other areas of the store was a simple yet effective way to keep workers and site visitors safer. Once again, our 910-2 Barrier System, combined with Hand Rail, came to the rescue. High visibility, built for impact, and cost effective, it was the optimal solution. If you have walkways that could benefit from a touch of Safety Yellow barrier, talk to our team today to find out more.
Learn moreWalk this Way: Keeping Workers Safe at CHEP Auckland
Anyone who’s spent time in a CHEP warehouse knows they are busy places. Forklifts are constantly on the move, pallets are shifting, and staff are often navigating the floor on foot alongside machinery. It works well when everything runs smoothly, but clear separation is key to keeping people safe. That is where this project came in. To better protect staff on foot, we installed clearly defined pedestrian zones, surrounded by certified Tru-Gard safety barrier. These walkways give people a safe space to move through the warehouse, without having to second-guess what is happening around them. The solution uses our classic 910-2 Barrier System, designed to deliver strength, visibility, and peace of mind in busy warehouse environments. Personnel gates were added to provide practical access points between the pedestrian zones and the main warehouse floor, making it easy for staff to get where they need to go without crossing active traffic routes. In high-foot-traffic areas, a double-gate system was installed. One gate can be used for entering, the other for exiting, which helps keep foot traffic flowing and avoids those awkward bottlenecks during busy shifts. The end result is a safer, more organised warehouse environment where people and machinery can do what they need to do, without getting in each other’s way. All the right traffic management and health and safety boxes, ticked.
Learn moreTru-Gard Barrier - Protecting People and Pinot
Need enough barrier to stop a truck? No problem. With our 910-3E Barrier, we can do just that. Here’s one we installed for a Matua Wines in Blenheim, NZ, who needed to protect their assets (and their wine) from potential trucking mishaps. Company management recognised the very real risks to staff, buildings, assets, and products, due in part to the sheer volume of large transport trucks calling on site daily. Should one of these trucks accidentally roll off a ramp and hit someone or damage assets on site, it would be a disaster. Enter our 910-3E Galvanised Barrier, offering three rows of certified and tested protection. With six screw bolts per post and 1100 mm centres, these features add extra strength where it’s needed most. This configuration is our strongest and is designed to stop a 23-tonne vehicle travelling at 11.5 km/h on a 25-degree impact. It doesn’t get much more robust than that. If you have people, premises, or pinot to protect, get in touch with our team today to find out more about our heavy-duty options to suit.
