A Ewe-Nique Safety Solution for Silver Fern Farms Pareora PT.1

A Ewe-Nique Safety Solution for Silver Fern Farms Pareora PT.1

Silver Fern Farms in Pareora is a large sheep processing factory employing approximately 600 staff. Needless to say, that’s a lot of pedestrians moving around the site all day, every day! And they’re not the only things moving on site: large stock trucks, shipping containers, forklifts, storage bins, crates, pallets, and livestock are continuously on the move. This means the potential for an accident is always looming. The site is also more than 120 years old and wasn’t designed with the abundance of health and safety measures seen in modern processing plants. However, that was no barrier for the Silver Fern Farms team (no pun intended). With high standards of H&S company-wide, and significant effort and investment, they were prepared to bring the site up to new standards. Part of this involved addressing the many daily risks to workers, including heavy traffic, high-frequency pedestrian areas, and other hazards. That’s where we come in. Working with their team, we created a solution with safer pathways for foot traffic, protection from blind spots, and reduced chances of accidental damage. With a quick turnaround of just one week, our 910-2 Barrier + Hand Rail with a combination of Telescopic and Personnel Gates, was ready to go. The Pareora plant workers now have dedicated, highly visible, and most importantly, safer pathways that take them from A to B across the site. Securing Safe Traffic Zones at Woolworths Ashburton. We were excited to partner with construction experts Watts & Hughes to create safe traffic zones for Woolworths supermarket in Ashburton, NZ. Small Space, Big Safety: Safety Wins at Harvey Norman

Small Space, Big Safety: Safety Wins at Harvey Norman

Busy spaces with limited room call for smart safety solutions. That’s exactly what we delivered for Harvey Norman’s Timaru site, where the inwards and outwards goods area is compact and constantly buzzing with forklifts, staff on foot, pallet trolleys, and sack barrows. Space constraints mean forklifts and other moving equipment often graze the building structure, as visible from the worn wall cladding in the photos. In a busy environment like this, the risk to staff entering or exiting personnel doors at the wrong moment was a real concern. Tru-Gard Steps InOur solution was to install our 910-2 Certified Barrier mini safety zones around the doorways, combined with Personnel Safety Gates for secure and controlled access. A standout feature is our popular Double Telescopic Gate with latch, hinged directly onto our Standard Bollards. Its adjustable length provides a perfect fit every time, allowing mobile equipment to pass when needed, or locking off the area to prioritise pedestrian safety during busy periods. This system gives Harvey Norman the flexibility to keep their operation running smoothly while ensuring their people stay protected. Solutions Supplied Tru-Gard 910-2 Certified Barrier Tru-Gard Personnel Safety Gates Tru-Gard Double Telescopic Gate with Latch Tru-Gard Standard Bollards Safe Access in a Busy Goods AreaAt Tru-Gard, we understand that in fast-moving workplaces, safety can’t slow you down — it needs to keep pace. Fueling Up on Safety - Protecting RD Petroleum Tanks

Fueling Up on Safety - Protecting RD Petroleum Tanks

Some things just need protection — and above-ground petrol tanks are at the top of that list. No matter how carefully positioned, these tanks face a real risk from vehicle impact. Petrol may be an everyday commodity, but it’s also highly flammable and potentially explosive. While Hollywood action scenes might dramatise fuel fires, the danger is all too real, with serious incidents having caused devastating injuries and loss of life. For one high-use above-ground tank, we worked with the client to install protection where it matters most: the refuelling end where vehicles regularly pull up. Certified Protection, Minimal InterruptionWe recommended Tru-Gard™ Standard Bollards. Slimline, impact-tested to AS/NZS 1170.1, 3.8 car park standards, and designed to protect without obstructing access. For added coverage along the tank’s sides, we used our 610-1 safety barrier configuration: 610mm-high posts with one barrier rail, providing strong protection without creating access issues. Depending on site layout and risk, we can also recommend larger bollards or higher barrier configurations (such as 610-2, 910-2, or 910-3) for maximum peace of mind. Solutions Supplied Tru-Gard™ Standard Bollards Tru-Gard™ Safety Barrier 610-1 Configuration Keeping Dangerous Goods SafeWhen it comes to storing and protecting petroleum, prevention is everything. Raising Safety Standards at Te Whatu Ora Canterbury’s New Carpark

Raising Safety Standards at Te Whatu Ora Canterbury’s New Carpark

After a lengthy planning period, we were thrilled to deliver our Tru-Gard™ Anti-Climb Carpark Barrier for the new eight-storey staff carpark at Te Whatu Ora Canterbury District Health Board. Working alongside Naylor Love Canterbury, we supplied our certified safety barrier for this custom-built facility on Hagley Avenue, Christchurch, designed in close partnership with Ngāi Tahu to serve health board staff. Winning the tender more than two years before construction began meant patience was key—but when the time came, we were ready to manufacture and install safety measures that would stand the test of height and time. Safety That’s Hard to ScaleOur Tru-Gard™ Anti-Climb panels were the perfect fit to tackle the risks posed by this multi-level open-air carpark. Featuring a flat, no-grip surface, these panels provide an extra-safe barrier that’s impossible for children or daredevils to climb — because some things should stay out of reach! Solutions Supplied Tru-Gard™ Certified Anti-Climb Carpark Barrier Panels A New Standard for Multi-Level CarparksThis was one of our first major projects featuring the Tru-Gard™ Anti-Climb design — and what a success it was. We believe this barrier is an essential safety feature for any open-air carpark or location where height is a hazard. At Tru-Gard, we’re all about keeping safety high, but climbing safety risks low.

Safety on the Edge: Protecting a High-Risk Auckland Carpark

Safety on the Edge: Protecting a High-Risk Auckland Carpark

When the stakes are high, so is our commitment to safety. That’s why we were proud to support the team responsible for a fifth-floor, open-air public carpark adjacent to Auckland’s Spark Arena – sitting directly above office spaces and a childcare centre. With a moderate slope where cars park sideways and only an aesthetic glass balustrade for edge protection, the risks were obvious. A moment’s distraction – a wrong gear, or the accelerator instead of the brake – could have sent a vehicle over the edge to the street below. Not exactly the safest parking solution. Certified Protection for Peace of MindOur recommendation? The Tru-Gard™ Certified Safety Barrier 610-1 configuration. Independently tested and accredited to withstand the impact of 7-tonne vehicles, it meets AS/NZS structural standards for carparks and provides a genuine safety net for drivers. By replacing aesthetics-only protection with a system designed to perform under pressure, we’ve transformed this carpark from a high-risk hazard into a much safer space for the public. Mishaps that could once have ended in disaster now have a strong line of defence. Solutions SuppliedFor this project, we provided: Tru-Gard™ Certified Safety Barrier 610-1 Configuration Raising the Bar for Carpark SafetyAt Tru-Gard, we believe safety should never be left to chance – especially when the edge is just metres away. If you’re looking to bring certified, tested protection to your carpark, our team is here to help you make it happen.

Zero Is Possible: Supporting Martin Brower’s Safety Mission

When on-site safety is a non-negotiable, we are all in. That’s why it was a privilege to support Martin Brower New Zealand during the construction of their new Auckland distribution centre – purpose-built to service McDonald’s restaurants across the country. As a global supply chain partner for multi-unit restaurants, managing the efficient movement of food products from suppliers to eateries all over the world, there are plenty of moving parts. One of the pillars of Martin Brower is safety – protecting employees, customers, and facilities. With a company-wide safety motto, “Zero is possible” – we couldn’t agree more. You might even say we’re lovin’ it! End-to-End Safety for a High-Performance Distribution Centre With a mindset that even one injury is unacceptable, Martin Brower brought that same commitment to safety into the planning and design of their Wiri facility. We were proud to partner with them to advise, estimate, and supply a suite of Tru-Gard safety products tailored to their new-build project. Installed before the first team member set foot on site (or the first burger bun rolled through the door), our safety systems were integrated right from the start, helping set the tone for a safer operation from day one. Heavy-Duty Safety for Mondiale’s Auckland Hub

A big name in international freight, Mondiale VGL are experts in all things freight and logistics. Operating across some of the world’s most significant trade routes, by air and sea, their operations involve a constant flow of import and export moving parts. From container movements to pallet transfers and heavy-duty haulage, there are plenty of opportunities for health and safety risks. So, when they needed to add extra safety to their Auckland HQ, they knew who to call. Their Auckland office, situated near the country’s largest airport, is a constant hive of activity. The Mondiale team approached us to enhance health and safety around their warehouse. Delivering Safety at Scale for NZ Post’s New Super Depot

Delivering Safety at Scale for NZ Post’s New Super Depot

In high-volume logistics and parcel processing centres, we know safety is just as critical as speed. With large teams working alongside fast-moving machinery, vehicles, and thousands of parcels, every metre of the facility must be designed with protection in mind. So, when NZ Post set out to build their new ‘super depot’ in Grenada, Wellington, they knew our products would be up for the challenge. Spanning over 10,000m², this new depot is equipped with some of the world’s most advanced parcel sorting and scanning technology. But with hundreds of people on site every day, continuous traffic movement, and freight in constant flow, protecting people, infrastructure, and of course, precious cargo, was a top priority. That’s where we came in. Our team supplied a range of Certified Safety Barriers and Bollards throughout the facility. And while there’s plenty of iconic NZ Post red, our signature safety yellow still stands out—and for good reason. It was essential that our products be clearly visible across the site. Our solutions help ensure safer pedestrian movement, protect vital infrastructure, and reduce the risk of accidents across key operational zones, without interrupting your parcel deliveries. This wasn’t just an investment in infrastructure and technology for NZ Post—it was a proven investment in team safety. For this project, we supplied: Safety barriers: To define walkways, and protect equipment. Bollards: To equipment, and structural assets from vehicle impact. Let’s Make Your Workplace SaferIf you're building or upgrading a distribution centre or logistics facility, talk to us about integrating smart safety solutions into your project. We can assess your site and recommend the optimal safety system to make your workplace safer.  __ Photo credit: Robert Keenan, NZ Post

Driving Safer Solutions for Port of Auckland

Driving Safer Solutions for Port of Auckland

When New Zealand’s largest import port is building a five-storey car park, it requires a bespoke barrier solution. That’s where our custom manufacturing abilities, decades of experience, and commitment to safety come together to create one of our largest projects to date. The Tru-Gard Solution: Port management requested a custom-designed version of our standard Tru-Gard Barrier system, with 1100mmH support posts coated with a special XR coating system and finished in ‘safety yellow’ to match the rails. Every post is secured to the concrete with a 5-bolt footprint for maximum strength and stability. The top hand rail was specially designed with a square profile for easy attachment directly onto the support posts. Similarly, a lower guardrail of the same profile was added underneath the main barrier to ensure full safety for pedestrians, preventing accidental slipping through the gap and falling out of the building. This carpark building is located centrally in Auckland where both the main port and the city’s CBD come together within highly-populated proximity. Great effort has been put into making the building as attractive as possible in its setting, including a wonderful light show by night. It is an architectural sight to behold while also being one of the safest multi-story buildings in the city. __ __

Bollards, Barriers, and Beyond at Bunnings Timaru

Bollards, Barriers, and Beyond at Bunnings Timaru

If you’ve ever shopped at a Bunnings Warehouse, especially on a sunny day or public holiday, you’ll know just how busy the place can be. With customer vehicles constantly on the move, trucks making deliveries out the back, forklifts shifting stock, and plenty of pedestrians and staff on foot, it’s a hive of activity. With all these moving parts, it was essential to develop a safety solution that considered every aspect. We worked closely with the team to identify risks and hazards specific to their store and create custom safety solutions to suit. The Tru-Gard Solution: At the front, Tru-Gard Bollards keep pedestrians safe and the building protected from any accidental “put it in drive instead of reverse” incidents. Out the back, Tru-Gard Barriers safeguard team members and the building from damage caused by wide-swinging trucks and forklifts laden with heavy pallets of hardware. We also supplied Tru-Gard Expanding Barriers, enabling staff to create temporary safe zones while they work and redirect pedestrians around short-term hazards.
