Stocked Up on Safety at Foodstuffs Dunedin

Stocked Up on Safety at Foodstuffs Dunedin

This very large and busy distribution centre, right here in our backyard (Dunedin, NZ), handles high volumes of dry grocery products every single day. Keeping supermarket shelves stocked is no small task, which means forklifts are constantly moving goods in and out, with ground personnel working in close quarters. Several workstations are located in these high-traffic zones, so the risk of injury from a forklift is a serious health and safety concern. Working alongside our team, Foodstuffs developed barrier zones around these workstations and in high foot-traffic areas to make the workplace safer for staff. Using our 910-2 system, these barriers can withstand impacts from forklifts if needed while providing a clear visual guide for drivers on where pedestrian zones are. Here’s what the team at Foodstuffs had to say about the product and install process: “Impressed with the end product and workmanship. Also impressed with the professionalism while you were on site, i.e. health and safety, documentation, speed of delivery, attitude, knowledge, and general engagement with the team.”— Matthew Peoples, Health & Safety Manager, Foodstuffs South Island If you’ve got a high-traffic, high-hazard environment, contact our team today to find out more about the Tru-Gard products best suited to your unique site and hazards.

A Ewe-Nique Safety Solution for Silver Fern Farms Pareora PT.2

A Ewe-Nique Safety Solution for Silver Fern Farms Pareora PT.2

We are back at Silver Fern Farms Pareora to complete phase two of a large safety project at their busy meat processing factory. This time the focus was on strengthening pedestrian zones for shift workers who have to move through heavy traffic areas to reach their workstations. To overcome this hazard, we added extra 910-2 Safety Barriers to complete the walkways, as well as incoming and outgoing personnel gates and telescopic gates to separate pedestrians from vehicles. With over 600 employees split across multiple shifts, that’s plenty of pedestrians moving around the site at all hours of the day and night. Combined with the large stock trucks, containers, forklifts, bins, crates, pallets, livestock, and all of the other hazards we had already identified, this is just another layer of added protection to bring this over-120-year-old processing plant up to modern safety standards. A Ewe-Nique Safety Solution for Silver Fern Farms Pareora PT.1

Silver Fern Farms in Pareora is a large sheep processing factory employing approximately 600 staff. Needless to say, that’s a lot of pedestrians moving around the site all day, every day! And they’re not the only things moving on site: large stock trucks, shipping containers, forklifts, storage bins, crates, pallets, and livestock are continuously on the move. This means the potential for an accident is always looming. The site is also more than 120 years old and wasn’t designed with the abundance of health and safety measures seen in modern processing plants. However, that was no barrier for the Silver Fern Farms team (no pun intended). With high standards of H&S company-wide, and significant effort and investment, they were prepared to bring the site up to new standards. Part of this involved addressing the many daily risks to workers, including heavy traffic, high-frequency pedestrian areas, and other hazards. That’s where we come in. Working with their team, we created a solution with safer pathways for foot traffic, protection from blind spots, and reduced chances of accidental damage. With a quick turnaround of just one week, our 910-2 Barrier + Hand Rail with a combination of Telescopic and Personnel Gates, was ready to go. The Pareora plant workers now have dedicated, highly visible, and most importantly, safer pathways that take them from A to B across the site. Fueling Up on Safety - Protecting RD Petroleum Tanks

Fueling Up on Safety - Protecting RD Petroleum Tanks

Some things just need protection — and above-ground petrol tanks are at the top of that list. No matter how carefully positioned, these tanks face a real risk from vehicle impact. Petrol may be an everyday commodity, but it’s also highly flammable and potentially explosive. While Hollywood action scenes might dramatise fuel fires, the danger is all too real, with serious incidents having caused devastating injuries and loss of life. For one high-use above-ground tank, we worked with the client to install protection where it matters most: the refuelling end where vehicles regularly pull up. Certified Protection, Minimal InterruptionWe recommended Tru-Gard™ Standard Bollards. Slimline, impact-tested to AS/NZS 1170.1, 3.8 car park standards, and designed to protect without obstructing access. For added coverage along the tank’s sides, we used our 610-1 safety barrier configuration: 610mm-high posts with one barrier rail, providing strong protection without creating access issues. Depending on site layout and risk, we can also recommend larger bollards or higher barrier configurations (such as 610-2, 910-2, or 910-3) for maximum peace of mind. Solutions Supplied Tru-Gard™ Standard Bollards Tru-Gard™ Safety Barrier 610-1 Configuration Keeping Dangerous Goods SafeWhen it comes to storing and protecting petroleum, prevention is everything. Raising Safety Standards at Te Whatu Ora Canterbury’s New Carpark

Raising Safety Standards at Te Whatu Ora Canterbury’s New Carpark

After a lengthy planning period, we were thrilled to deliver our Tru-Gard™ Anti-Climb Carpark Barrier for the new eight-storey staff carpark at Te Whatu Ora Canterbury District Health Board. Working alongside Naylor Love Canterbury, we supplied our certified safety barrier for this custom-built facility on Hagley Avenue, Christchurch, designed in close partnership with Ngāi Tahu to serve health board staff. Winning the tender more than two years before construction began meant patience was key—but when the time came, we were ready to manufacture and install safety measures that would stand the test of height and time. Safety That’s Hard to ScaleOur Tru-Gard™ Anti-Climb panels were the perfect fit to tackle the risks posed by this multi-level open-air carpark. Featuring a flat, no-grip surface, these panels provide an extra-safe barrier that’s impossible for children or daredevils to climb — because some things should stay out of reach! Solutions Supplied Tru-Gard™ Certified Anti-Climb Carpark Barrier Panels A New Standard for Multi-Level CarparksThis was one of our first major projects featuring the Tru-Gard™ Anti-Climb design — and what a success it was. We believe this barrier is an essential safety feature for any open-air carpark or location where height is a hazard. At Tru-Gard, we’re all about keeping safety high, but climbing safety risks low.

Safety on the Edge: Protecting a High-Risk Auckland Carpark

Safety on the Edge: Protecting a High-Risk Auckland Carpark

When the stakes are high, so is our commitment to safety. That’s why we were proud to support the team responsible for a fifth-floor, open-air public carpark adjacent to Auckland’s Spark Arena – sitting directly above office spaces and a childcare centre. With a moderate slope where cars park sideways and only an aesthetic glass balustrade for edge protection, the risks were obvious. A moment’s distraction – a wrong gear, or the accelerator instead of the brake – could have sent a vehicle over the edge to the street below. Not exactly the safest parking solution. Certified Protection for Peace of MindOur recommendation? The Tru-Gard™ Certified Safety Barrier 610-1 configuration. Independently tested and accredited to withstand the impact of 7-tonne vehicles, it meets AS/NZS structural standards for carparks and provides a genuine safety net for drivers. By replacing aesthetics-only protection with a system designed to perform under pressure, we’ve transformed this carpark from a high-risk hazard into a much safer space for the public. Mishaps that could once have ended in disaster now have a strong line of defence. Solutions SuppliedFor this project, we provided: Tru-Gard™ Certified Safety Barrier 610-1 Configuration Raising the Bar for Carpark SafetyAt Tru-Gard, we believe safety should never be left to chance – especially when the edge is just metres away. If you’re looking to bring certified, tested protection to your carpark, our team is here to help you make it happen.

Zero Is Possible: Supporting Martin Brower’s Safety Mission

When on-site safety is a non-negotiable, we are all in. That’s why it was a privilege to support Martin Brower New Zealand during the construction of their new Auckland distribution centre – purpose-built to service McDonald’s restaurants across the country.
