Safety Yellow Protection for Dunedin's Iconic Golden Centre

Safety Yellow Protection for Dunedin's Iconic Golden Centre

Ram-raids are expensive, hazardous, and often preventable. When the Golden Centre Mall in the heart of Dunedin was ram-raided during the pre-Christmas rush in 2024, the team needed a cost-effective solution to protect their premises while maintaining much-needed access. The solution was our removable bollards. These 115mmØ bollards can be easily removed when access is required and securely locked in place at other times, providing effective protection against ram-raids without slowing down business. Available in safety yellow or galvanised finishes to suit the style of the premises, the bollards can be lifted and stored in our removable bollard holders when not in use. This makes them a practical deterrent and a reliable way to reduce damage and risk. The ram-raid at the Golden Centre caused extensive damage to the interior and exterior, including glass doors, retail spaces, and flooring, while also shaking the confidence of retailers. Our bollards offer a low-cost confidence boost, protecting the space and helping staff and visitors feel secure. The result is a safer, more resilient environment for retailers, visitors, and staff alike. Another example of Tru-Gard retail protection.

Care from the Carpark Onwards: Safety at St George’s Hospital

Care from the Carpark Onwards: Safety at St George’s Hospital

We all like to think of hospitals as safe places. After all, that’s where people go to be treated, healed, and looked after. But safety doesn’t just start at the front door, it starts in the carpark. No one wants their hospital visit to come with extra hazards, and that’s where our bollards come in. St George’s Hospital is a large private clinic in Christchurch, offering surgery, cancer treatment, ophthalmology, orthopedics, maternity care, and more. With sizeable grounds comes sizeable car parking for day patients and longer-term stays, and with any busy parking area comes risk. Traffic management contractors working with the hospital called on us to supply the strongest bollards we have for exposed areas, including generator buildings and garden areas that might otherwise be overlooked by motorists or pedestrians. Our Tru-Gard XL Cast-in Bollards were the perfect fit. At 220 mm in diameter, with 5 mm thick steel walls and a total height of 2250 mm (1500 mm above ground, 750 mm cast in), these are our largest, most robust bollards. At 60 kg each, the only risk left is lifting them into the pre-prepared holes, so mind your back! With these bollards in place, hospital staff, visitors, and patients get an extra layer of protection while moving through the grounds. Keeping people safe isn’t just about what happens inside the hospital, it starts the moment you step onto the site.

Custom Colours and Critical Access at Marsden Point Refinery

Custom Colours and Critical Access at Marsden Point Refinery

If you need custom colour combinations or tones that match your branding, no problem, we’ve got you covered! This multicolour barrier was a custom request for a client at an enormous oil refinery site, where their onsite warning colour scheme is black and yellow. This colour combination can be found across the site, indoors and out, to indicate high-risk areas. It is something that is well drilled into their team. Our team was more than happy to calculate the metreage of barrier required to provide a full traffic safety zone around the site and arranged for half to be in our traditional Safety Yellow, with the other half in black. Installed in an alternating pattern, these were instantly recognised as part of the hazard warning system on site. The added bonus is that it looks great. Not only was colour a special requirement for the client, but they also needed removable pins in the barrier to hold it in place. In the case of a fire or other emergency, the fire brigade or other first responders need to be able to remove sections of barrier to access areas of the site with hoses or other equipment. It was vital that this could be done quickly and without the need for specialty tools. After all, the last thing a site dealing with highly flammable materials needs is an obstacle that prevents an emergency response. Our team got to work redesigning our usual permanent bolt assembly, creating a pin connection system to ensure the barrier was safe on site, but easily removable. The result was the ideal solution and a very happy customer. If you have a site with very specific requirements, need product colour matched to your brand standards, or find that nothing on the market quite works for you, contact our team today to discuss a bespoke solution that works.

Chilly Spaces, Safe Places - Keeping this Polarcold Auckland Safe.

Chilly Spaces, Safe Places - Keeping this Polarcold Auckland Safe.

Chilly temperatures, expensive rapid doors, active loading docks, pedestrians and forklifts – talk about a busy environment! When the managers of this large cold store reached out to us, we were only too happy to help them protect expensive assets, like automation systems and doors, as well as their employees from forklift traffic and moving goods. Our 910-2 Barrier is the go-to option for cases like this, and we maximised its presence for full protection. With the addition of some personnel gates, there was now a clearly defined pedestrian area, with safe access points and clear visual deterrents from getting too close to installed assets. We also recommended adding additional signage, and the clients took that up with matching yellow 'warning signs', the icing on the safety cake as it were. Our Door Frame Bollards added extra protection around the doors, preventing accidental damage. While these doors may be on the tall side, they were no issue for our team, as we can handle custom sizes to fit and protect any doorway. The Door Frame Bollards are worth their weight in gold because doors like these don’t come cheap, and they tend to be victims of accidental bumps and scrapes by vehicles and forklifts more often than you would think. Our Door Frame Bollards prevent damage and costly downtime for repairs while creating a strong visual deterrent for drivers on site, a win/win if you ask us. We also capped off the project with some Tru-Gard Breakaway Bollards. These were installed to protect electrical equipment across the site, including door and dock control boxes. These bollards are attached to a breakaway base plate with shear bolts, designed to absorb the impact of a crash while breaking free of the base to prevent costly damage to the floor. Now, their people and assets are well protected from any accidental damage, saving costly downtime, expensive repairs, and most importantly, preventing injuries. If this sounds similar to your site or has you thinking about hazards that might need a solid safety solution, our team can help. Let us make your workplace safer, contact us today.

Silver Fern Farms Finegand: A Safety Legacy

Exported to and enjoyed by meat lovers in over 60 countries worldwide, travel with us to rural South Island, NZ, to Silver Fern Farms Finegand. A part of the local Clutha landscape and employer since 1912, the facility has changed hands a few times over the years, but most recently was purchased by Silver Fern Farms. A huge asset in their portfolio, this plant processed its millionth sheep in one season, just nine years after the takeover. Needless to say, this is a busy and hazardous site. Uniquely offering both beef (approximately 100,000 per year) and sheep (over 1 million per year), this site surges during the peak season with staff, stock, vehicles, and deliveries. When it came time to bring its safety standards up to date and comply with new legislation, they turned to our team for help. With hundreds of metres of Tru-Gard Safety Barrier, personnel gates for clearly defined access, protective bollards in key areas, and a range of handrails to create better pedestrian zones, this job is no mutton dressed as lamb; this is safety as it should be. A huge thank you to the team at Silver Fern Farms for trusting us to bring this iconic NZ meat processing facility up to current safety standards.

Living the Dream Safely at Golden Bay Fruit

Living the Dream Safely at Golden Bay Fruit

Golden Bay is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful spots in New Zealand, producing some of the best fruit in the world. Imagine living in this little slice of paradise, working in the sun, producing top-quality fruit, and doing it all safely. For the Golden Bay Fruit Company, that’s no dream; it’s their daily life. Business has been growing steadily over the years, and they needed to expand their infrastructure by building a large new packhouse. Considering the financial investment, the type of work that happens in these spaces, and the need to protect people and assets for the long term, safety protection was a top priority. That’s where we came in. Our 610-1 Barrier was the perfect choice for protection against side swipes from passing vehicles, while also creating a clear pedestrian walkway so staff on foot can feel safe moving around the plant. We also recommended our Personnel Gates to slow down pedestrian traffic at the main vehicle thoroughfares, giving peace of mind to drivers and those on foot. Then it was time to move from people protection to asset protection, looking after the newly installed industrial doors. Not only are these a high-value asset, but there is also the downtime for repairs and parts to consider. In some cases, our barrier or standard bollards provided ample protection from damage, but as some of these doors were exposed to larger vehicles, our Door Frame Bollards were the protection of choice — a full-framed approach to protection from the ground up. We’re very proud to have helped Golden Bay Fruit make this a safer space for their people and their facilities from the outset. After all, we want them living the dream, safely, for many years to come.

A Prime Example of Safety at Prime Range Meats

A Prime Example of Safety at Prime Range Meats

Welcome to Prime Range Meats, a New Zealand-based supplier and processor of meats and small goods, delivering door-to-door around the country. Like many processing plants we’ve seen, the volume of traffic and pedestrians is increasing - and so are the associated risks. With door-to-door delivery and a high volume of meats being processed, the inwards and outwards goods are constantly moving on site. Trucks, forklifts, staff, site visitors, public shoppers at their retail store, and delivery drivers all make for constant activity. While there were designated heavy traffic areas on site, the deteriorating painted warnings weren’t cutting the mustard anymore. To avoid any kind of disaster, we worked alongside the Prime Range team to create clearly defined safety zones, installing our 910-2 barrier in the most hazardous spots. Combined with our personnel gates to ensure safe crossings in the shared zones, this made for a much safer site. With personnel safety now sorted, we also helped prevent damage to their facilities. We’ve all seen areas on site that are notorious for forklift bumps and scrapes, so we installed bollards at key corners and doorways, acting as both a visual reminder and a sturdy shield. If your site has a few forklift scrapes you’d like sorted, or you have high-traffic areas that need more than a fresh lick of paint, we’re happy to help. Chat to our team about making your workplace a safer one.

A One-Stop Safety Shop for Woolworths CFDC

A one-stop safety shop — that’s how you might describe us. Especially during the Primary Connect Woolworths CFDC project. With over 280 metres of barrier, 230 metres of handrail, 34 door frame bollards, and plenty of bollards throughout the site, this was no small order. We worked alongside client Primary Connect and construction team Watts & Hughes to deliver a mix of off-the-shelf and modified safety products, each tailored to the unique layout and activity zones of the site. From protecting charging stations with bollards, to shielding expensive door mechanisms with our door frame bollards, creating safer pedestrian zones with mesh panels, and even supplying custom pre-assembled handrail for dock stairs, we covered it all. Every area presented its own challenges — from busy pedestrian zones to high-traffic loading bays — but our modular systems made it easy to adapt. Close collaboration with the site team ensured every product not only fit the space but performed exactly as needed once operations were underway. Anywhere safety was paramount, we had a solution to suit. Fueling Up on Safety - Protecting RD Petroleum Tanks

Some things just need protection — and above-ground petrol tanks are at the top of that list. No matter how carefully positioned, these tanks face a real risk from vehicle impact. Petrol may be an everyday commodity, but it’s also highly flammable and potentially explosive. While Hollywood action scenes might dramatise fuel fires, the danger is all too real, with serious incidents having caused devastating injuries and loss of life. For one high-use above-ground tank, we worked with the client to install protection where it matters most: the refuelling end where vehicles regularly pull up. Certified Protection, Minimal InterruptionWe recommended Tru-Gard™ Standard Bollards. Slimline, impact-tested to AS/NZS 1170.1, 3.8 car park standards, and designed to protect without obstructing access. Playing it Safe at Mount Smart Stadium

Playing it Safe at Mount Smart Stadium

At times, it can be hard enough being a Wah’s fan, without the additional worry of being run over on the way to and from the game! Mount Smart Stadium, home of the NRL’s New Zealand Warriors, is a busy venue, welcoming tens of thousands of fans each year for sporting fixtures, concerts, community events, and other large-scale entertainment. Their stadium management team approached us to install our bollards around the perimeter of the grounds to keep pedestrians safe from traffic and prevent vehicles from parking too close to the stadium walls or gates. With limited vehicle access required at times, usually in the form of a golf cart, our team worked around the cart’s measurements while creating a much clearer and safer pedestrian zone. The Tru-Gard Solution: We supplied a combination of fixed safety bollards and removable bollards, allowing for flexibility in the event of future earthworks, construction, or emergency access. All removable bollards can be easily unlocked and removed when needed, ensuring both adaptability and security. It’s a great outcome for the Mount Smart Stadium management team and fans alike. Now everyone can visit Mount Smart knowing they’ll be safe while focusing on the most important job of all, cheering on their team - Up the Wahs!
